Made In Uk: A Story Still Being Written

Baracuta’s Made in UK collection is more than a celebration of British craftsmanship; it’s a reaffirmation of who we are, where we began, and why that still matters. Rooted in Manchester’s rainy fairways and woven into the very fabric of British subcultures, this collection pays tribute to a legacy that has spanned generations and geographies. At its centre is the one and only G9 Harrington Jacket, an icon born out of necessity and refined through decades of cultural evolution.

Created in 1937 by the Miller brothers for golfers facing Manchester’s notoriously unpredictable skies, the G9 was engineered with function in mind: freedom of movement, breathability, and water resistance. Yet over the decades, it would become so much more: a staple in Ivy League wardrobes, a badge of honour for punks and mods, and a Hollywood favourite worn by the likes of Elvis Presley, Steve McQueen, and Frank Sinatra.

Today, that original spirit lives on. The G9 in Baracuta Cloth, our signature fabric, is still crafted in the UK — now in London — with the same attention to detail and commitment to quality that made it a classic. Every stitch carries a story. Every jacket reflects a journey. This is British style at its most authentic and enduring.

FROM COTTONOPOLIS TO CULTURAL ICON

Baracuta’s roots lie deep in the heart of Manchester, in a place known as Brunswick Mill, a historic textile powerhouse on Bradford Road. During the 19th century, this red-bricked mill helped earn the city its nickname: Cottonopolis, the cotton capital of the world. It was here, amidst the industrial hum and steady rhythm of skilled hands, that the first G9 Harrington Jackets came to life. The mill wasn’t just a site of production; it was a community. Each G9 jacket bore a number, a small yet profound tribute to the individual artisan who crafted it. This human touch elevated the jacket beyond a mere garment; it became a personal artefact, a piece of wearable heritage infused with emotion and pride. Even as Baracuta’s journey took the brand beyond Manchester, the commitment to British manufacturing never faltered. With the eventual move to London, production continued under the guidance of expert local craftspeople, many of whom have dedicated decades to perfecting their art. The spirit of Brunswick Mill still lingers in every cut, every seam, and every lining reminding us that while times may change, our roots remain strong.

DESIGN THAT SPEAKS FOR ITSELF

What defines a Baracuta jacket? Beyond its impeccable construction and legacy, it’s the unmistakable design elements — refined over 85 years — that make it truly iconic. At the collar, the two-button fastening offers versatility and function. Left open, it gives the jacket a relaxed, casual edge; buttoned up, it adds protection from the elements, true to its British rainwear origins.

Then there’s the umbrella yoke, an architectural detail that’s as poetic as it is practical. Inspired by the silhouette of a traditional umbrella, the yoke acts as a built-in vent, channeling rain away from the body and allowing the jacket to breathe. What began as a sportswear innovation has since become a defining mark of the Baracuta silhouette. Inside, every G9 is lined with the unmistakable Fraser Tartan, a symbol of heritage passed down through generations. In 1938, Brigadier Simon Fraser, 25th Chief of the Clan Fraser of Lovat, granted Baracuta the rights to use this historic pattern. Dating back to the 13th century, the tartan reflects the strength, endurance, and pride that define both clan and jacket alike.

A COLLECTION BUILT TO LAST

The Made in UK collection is a vivid expression of Baracuta’s heritage — past, present, and future through timeless British outerwear design. It begins, of course, with the legendary G9 Harrington Jacket. Originally designed for Manchester’s golfers, it now returns in a palette more expressive than ever before. From bold hues to soft neutrals, the G9 jacket has never been more colourful or more essential. But the collection doesn’t end there. Alongside the G9 stand two other icons of outerwear: the G10 and G12 coats.

The G10 coat is a masterclass in functional elegance. Its shorter, single-breasted silhouette makes it the perfect transitional coat, equally suited to the fast pace of city life or a weekend escape. Minimalist in design yet rich in character, it carries all of Baracuta’s signature hallmarks, including the Fraser Tartan lining and the protective umbrella yoke. The G12 coat, on the other hand, offers a longer, more enveloping silhouette: the quintessential raincoat tailored for Britain’s cooler seasons. Its refined construction provides comfort and coverage without compromising on design. Like its siblings, the G12 is a celebration of British craftsmanship, tailored to move with you and weather the years.

Every piece in the Made in UK collection is an heirloom in the making, built not just to be worn, but to be lived in, passed down, and cherished.

It stands for innovation, identity and a commitment to quality outerwear that spans generations. And so, we return to where it all began, not to replicate the past, but to honour it in every fibre.
